So I’m risking missing my stop on this train ride by reviewing about the recent iphone WordPress app released. Seeming as I’m writing this post on the app, the success of this post will be by itself a test of the apps abilities. If the mobile side of things go well too, there maybe a few more posts like this in the future. So far it hasn’t been too bad. For starters it’s got me realising that Writing in public has its pros and cons. Sadly though as I write this I can only think of the cons as I sit next to a passenger who could well be reading this as I type.
Awkward as Hell
Though Im going to power through this awkwardness, as it’s not a bad little app. Though a considerable amount of improvement is still needed. The main agony so far has been actually writing the bloody post, which seeming as that’s the whole point to the app you’d think the publishers would have had it down to a tea. Instead users are constantly forced to scroll themselves while writing as the cursor goes off screen when beginning a new sentence. Of course a new sentence is begun every 6 to 7 words as the text box for writing does not use the entire screen. Of course This little problem becomes ever more frustrating when each new sentence starts so close to the keyboard, causing users to accidentally pressing a letter midway of writing a word, which if left unnoticed makes the iPhone auto spell to change the word completely. In short I would not suggest using this app on the go; a slight miss touch on screen can lead to dire consequences such as automatically scrolling you to the top of the post midway of typing.
Too many Errors Plague The App
Unfortunately there are too many errors with moving from portrait to landscape, multitasking with other apps and saving posts with a network that has less then 3G connection. Though not all is bad with the app. While everything seems to be squashed into a clown car, the app does a good job with the category section for posts; allowing you to scroll through all your available categories. Its also good if you want to quickly get back to editing a post or continue with one. In short while this app hardly waters down the full version, it is plagued by basic faults that should not exist, such as a keyboard that won’t go away, sluggish response times and crashes to home screen.
Final Verdict Not Good
Verdict: 2 stars. It has potential but this app has a long journey until it can live up to mobile blogging standards.
