Thanks for the guide! I can see the news but I can't log in so I checked my last login file and it is there right in the folder. Can you suggest what I should do? Or is that just my proxy server error?

I completely agree with everything you've said, the fact that almost all if not all studios cash in on successful video game IP without showing any respect to the story that made it famous is hard to believe. Yes there is a hell of a lot of games that don't have much emphasis on story and only on set pieces, violence, cheap thrills etc. But games are an interactive form of entertainment so that is to be expected and even condoned, all gamers like mindless fun from time to time, movies on the otherhand are a passive medium which CAN be mindless fun. But the fact that movies boil down to visual story telling still means there HAS to be an emphasis on plot , character development etc, all the things that make a story a story. After all what good is a film if it has no story to tell or nothing to say, you wouldn't read a book without a story, would you? Sometimes it feels like there is still that public perception that games are just for kids and not to be taken seriously, but look at how far the gaming industry has come in 20 years. As hardware has advanced and allowed for beautiful graphics, amazing sound, brilliant settings and sophisticated AI, we now have a medium capable of incredible story telling potential. Take Bioshock for example, a game with a fantastic story perfect for film adaptation which could not only attract an already large fan base. But could also, if marketed correctly could draw in a larger non-gamer audience due to its setting and story. This would also greatly help public perception of the maturity and intelligent creativity in terms of story telling video games have taken, possibly opening the floodgates for more applaudible game adaptations. Unfortunately I recently learned that the movie for Bioshock has reached development hell because no studio is willing to fund it without a PG-13 rating because they feel the R rating necessary to properly tell that story would not net enough cash, (probably because they think the key or only demographic is under 18s because games are for kids). Now the man who was to direct the movie has pulled out because he won't commit to making it if he can't make it live up to its source material. Kudos to him for not selling it short of its potential but that doesn't detract from the real problem. Hollywood doesn't believe games to be profitable enough for film if they're to be directed only at adults (btw the average age of a gamer these days is 35 i think). I can see 2 problems there 1) hollywood thinks games to be immature and haven't caught on to gamings maturity and, 2) their motivations are fuelled only by money. I realise that a business has to make money but when your business is storytelling the only way to make good money is to make good stories. (Yes I know there are plenty of movies with shitty stories but lots of loud bangs, action and buxom beauties that make a lot of money, but the movies that stand the test of time and really resonate with viewers are the ones with good stories). Until someone can make a video game adaptation that stays true to its source material and can sell exteremly well, noone is going to take games seriously as a storytelling medium. I apologise if I have rambled on to long (i could continue for another 10 pages if given the chance) but I really love good stories so I love movies and novels, but I am also an avid gaming enthusiast and it irritates me that gamers and the gaming community cannot gather the respect we deserve as not only a storytelling medium but also as an artform.
