I have to admit I was unsure at first when I watched a trailer of a motion comic submitted to Newgrounds entitled Faux, while enticing as it was with it’s dramatic scenes of grandeur, in which every scene seemed to have people with extremely pensive expressions, I was sceptical of the comic being all action with little or poor story telling. Though if like me you find yourself captivated by the original art and idea of a motion comic, then you wont be disappointed; the story itself is just as captivating as its looks. Created by incredibly talented Marcel Laurin, the comic is segmented into roughly 10 minute episodes and its current 3 episodes, or however you wish to call them, are well paced. Without revealing too much about the plot, Faux is set in what seems to be a future setting, though don’t expect to see a utopia with flying cars, Faux is very much about the grit and dreary life in an urban sprawl. Add that with mystery and a bunch of “colourful” characters and you have yourself an extremely entertaining motion comic on your hands. There’s not a lot you can complain about with Faux, apart from the odd animation that fails to convince and some of the weapon sound effects. But you can argue that this is compensated by the awesome scoring. Overall, I recommend watching the trailer and the first episode to get a feel of what to expect, but from what I can tell, viewers can expect a lot more in future chapters with potential twists and turns in the storyline. If you like the usual then this is a one to watch. You can watch the first 3 episodes below, though if you do find yourself hooked just as myself, you will want to subscribe to Marcel Laurin on Vimeo to grab the latest videos. My personal views: this is a true series that you must watch.
