More than rumor, its been confirmed that the development for the successor to the PlayStation 3 is already under way according to financial officer Masaru Kato. After Sony’s annual earning report today in a phone call with Gamespot, it was stated that: “We have a portable NGP to be launched later this year, so we have development expenses to be incurred for this product and for the home equipment. The PS3 still has a product life, but this is a platform business, so for the future platform–when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that–but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.” This comes during rumors of Microsoft’s recent job listings for next generation Xbox development positions and Nintendo’s announcement of a successor to Wii available to play at E3 this year.
