Is It Me Or Has the Japanese Anime Industry Turned into A Porn Industry?
Ok maybe I’m using a bit of good old British journalism to exaggerating things here, but someone has to admit there’s a bit more hoo haar, or however you spell that, flying around lately? Not that I’m going to make this into a serious discussion of any sort, as I’m sure that can only lead to some very interesting annotations to say the least. But being honest I wanted to make this a review about another anime for you guys to watch, but I’m seriously all dried out at the moment. And yes I’m sticking with that sentence despite the implications. Yet I thought that seeming there’s no anime news of note and because we haven’t had this for a while, I would write about me. Now if your one of few that hasn’t already left because of that sentence, congratulations for sticking with me as I’ll explain further that its not about me per say. Ok maybe a little. It doesn’t seem that long ago I was watching Death Note in an awe, being the sentimental kinda guy who’s in touch with his feelings (pause for timely cough), it got me thinking that maybe I’ve been spoiled for anime in the past? I’ve watch anime ever since I was young, not that I’m that old, but wasn’t until my teens that I recognized, or rediscovered if you will. As far as I was concerned when I was small, anime only consisted of a really badly drawn Dragon Ball Z and a blonde girl who always seemed to sing at every opportunity in a show called Sailor Moon. Though still sticking to this train of thought, if I were to point at an anime that I fully enjoyed back then it would be Monster Rancher, or Monster Farm in Japan. Maybe I wouldn’t recommend it now, but for a kids show it defiantly was an influence… no not on my life, im not that sad, but to my idea of a good anime and storyline. Yet this wouldn’t remain anything more than an acquaintance until I purchased a manga called Love Hina. Its probably one of the few funny and heart warming manga I’ve ever read and would certainly leave me with a soft spot for such stories. After that a few purchases of more manga and then my discovery of Naruto would lead me finally to such wonders as: Samurai Shamploo, Code Geass, Gundam 00 and Ergo Proxy. My previous sentence leads me nicely to my original topic.
Who Really Cares? Apparently Me.
Love Hina is of course remembered for more than its humour and if were really going to be anal about things the humor was based upon sex appeal. And lets be honest the story wasn’t all that great in comparison to others, but as a manga it certainly excelled in dialogue. What I’m failing to get at here is that while Love Hina was based upon all those things that makes the many moe anime’s today, it was renowned for more than just appealing to moe lovers. Not that I’m implying that’s something bad; ok that’s a really bad sentence but keep with me. In short Love Hina tried and exceeded to be more. Does that mean if an anime in the same genre fails to succeed are nothing more than smut, no. Yet it highlights that there are authors that create regardless of popularity and those that create for popularity. And its this notion why I think the billion dollar industry is not what it use to be; the lack of creative creators (I guess declining profits are an indication too). Lets face it though, those “interesting” scenes have always been a part of manga and anime no doubt. However it those series that just use such scenes or entire episodes with no apparent creativity other than to entice such views. I myself have no respect for those stories, yet the marketing and authors of the moe rage apparently think all anime lovers are perverts. To me at least it seems many authors can’t seem to create a good story without supposedly adding some men’s special interest literature in. I hate to say that, seeming as this an idustry renounwed for its creativity. Is this bad though? Hell, who cares? I guess when you start having an industry that targets an audience for such content and porn industry that does the same marketing that we can ask: Is It Me Or Has the Japanese Anime Industry Turned into A Porn Industry? Just a little thought for you.

Thankfully the domain error that has been a persistant pain in the rear end has finally been sorted. It took a while but with some help from the friendly, and more importantly, paitent guys at GoDaddy.com, things are back to normal. On a side note, I highly commend GoDaddy’s technical support, despite it taking them over a week to solve the issue. Apologies for leaving everyone in the dark, maybe we should have been a bit more informative on the old blog as to what was happening. However and unsually, we here havn’t been slacking off at all. Theres a ton of new content for everyone to read and we are continually adding to the layout. Enjoy!
